Sentenced to Serving the Good Life in Norway -- TIME
hi. thanks for the article, was an interesting read. but i think you misunderstood the idea of “strong welfare system” implied in the article. maybe because im in europe, education (in that case equal opportunity for all those who wants a higher education are allowed to, either because of the free or very subsidized educational system or through state-supported educational loans, [talking about west-european and scandinavian countries]) does fall under the the category of social welfare, and that in itself constitutes meritocracy.
I’m not sure I agree with all of this, but I do agree that prisons should be designed to rehabilitate prisoners - not just lock them up.
Also, I’m not sure I agree that “a strong social welfare system” reduces crime. Instead I think it’s more about a meritocracy, and presenting opportunities for education for those unable to afford it - in some cases education loans - and in other cases (when they not adults etc.) free school…
Either way….thought provoking….
